Instead, he’s taking an untitled sci-fi project from the Daniels, one he’s summed up as The Breakfast Club meets Inception.
That’s the entire pitch available right now. And frankly, it does the job.
What The Odyssey did for him
Decades into a career that’s brought several acting Oscar nominations and a writing win for Good Will Hunting, Damon has never had a moment quite like this one.
Following a run of supporting roles in Christopher Nolan films, he was finally handed the lead in a fantasy action epic — and his Odysseus landed as far more than a fearless tactical leader. That performance is why an Oscar nomination looks likely.
It also helped drive the film to $1.6 billion worldwide. Credit doesn’t belong to him alone: the ensemble is loaded and Nolan's name sells tickets by itself. Still, a star of that magnitude shifts box office, and the studios were paying attention.
The directors who made everyone wait
Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert have been absent from features since Everything Everywhere All at Once, their 2022 sci-fi film that took home seven Oscars, Best Picture among them. Their previous effort was Swiss Army Man, starring Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe.
Choosing what came next took them years. That’s a long runway for anticipation to accumulate.
Distribution falls to Universal, meaning Damon stays under the same roof he occupied for The Odyssey. It arrives Nov. 19, 2027.
Joining Damon, per confirmations so far: Sandra Oh, Charles Melton, Michael Gandolfini, PinkPantheress, Sean Kaufman, Silvia Dionicio, Jackson Kelly, Kerrice Brooks and Thalia Dudek.
The suit
The plot remains sealed off. What has escaped is arguably more interesting — set photos taken as production began show Damon wearing something close to a Power Rangers suit.
According to Damon, the film carries “all the wildness and all the heart” that audiences found in Everything Everywhere All at Once. From an actor fresh off playing a Greek hero for Nolan, that sounds less like marketing copy and more like a heads-up.
Why Universal won’t let this one drift
Damon occupies leading-man territory again for the first time in years. The Odyssey handed him his flowers, and his work on The Rip helped push it into the ranks of Netflix’s most-watched 2026 movies.
Add the awards credibility the Daniels are now carrying, and Universal has a title it will drive through every channel at its disposal. No studio lets a combination like this coast.
So hold this picture until November 2027: the actor who just embodied Odysseus, planted on a set in an outfit that looks pulled from a Saturday morning toy shelf, taking direction from the pair who won Best Picture with a bagel.
