Moonfrost arrives in Steam Early Access
Oxalis Games has released its cozy life sim RPG, Moonfrost, in Steam Early Access. The game launched on October 12, 2026, at 6 PM BST. It normally sells for $14.99, but a launch discount brings it down to $13.49 until October 26.
About 50% of the main storyline is included in the Early Access build. Players can take the Temple as far as Level 19 and meet 11 NPCs, and each of those relationships can reach Level 3. Rebuilding the village is the heart of the experience: players clear debris and restore their community.
Game functionalities and accessibility
Moonfrost is available on Windows PC and supports controllers fully, along with Steam Cloud saves and Family Sharing. The release adds a new map, task tracking, and more crafting puzzles. The latest update also made Indonesian playable, joining English, Spanish, Chinese, and Japanese. Only English comes with full audio support.
Speaking for Oxalis Games, Gina Nelson said, “Moonfrost has always been about people coming together to fix something broken.”
Demo transitions to Early Access
A refreshed demo went live at 1 PM BST on the same day. Progress made in it carries over to Early Access. Because the game has changed so much, saves from earlier demos will not work with the new version.
Growing interest before launch
Anticipation built quickly before release. Moonfrost passed 50,000 wishlists on Steam six days ahead of launch, and the release announcement had gone out on September 29.
Game setting and mechanics
The story takes place 100 years after a second moon appeared in the sky. Players take on the role of Frost Hunters, who use Moonfrost shards to rebuild their world. Everyday activities such as farming and crafting sit alongside design tools for building and decorating homes.
Transition from web3 to premium title
Oxalis Games first planned Moonfrost as a web3 game and raised a $4.5 million seed round from backers including Blocore, Supercell, and Animoca Brands. In November 2025, the studio changed direction. It chose to launch on Steam and drop the crypto elements so it could focus more clearly on its audience.
Frost Arcade development
Players who joined during the web3 phase have been pointed to Frost Arcade, a separate platform built for quicker, session-based games. Ric Moore is leading Frost Arcade, which will include multiplayer options and competitive events. Early supporters will keep their assets, and the reward framework is still being discussed.
Moore suggested that a “Risk to Earn” model may be used, saying, “Risk-to-Earn solves this. Poker is R2E.”
On PlayToEarn, Moonfrost currently ranks #47 with a score of 849.
