Nothing’s next product now has three public details from Carl Pei. It doesn’t add a new screen. It couldn’t have been built as an app. And it’s due in December.

That’s close to everything we know. The Nothing CEO wrote on X on Wednesday that the company’s first “AI-native product” arrives next month, though his post skipped most of the details a buyer would look for.

“It’s a tool, but one built with the personality and care that have come to define a Nothing product. It has no new screen, and it couldn’t have been an app,” Pei said.

No display, and not something an app could do

Taken together, the hints point to AI hardware without a display that handles a job a phone app couldn’t. Pei also described it as a “productivity tool,” which rules out a few possibilities.

The product still has no name, price or public images from Nothing. It doesn’t have an exact release date yet either. All the company has given is the month.

Pei sets it apart from other AI gadgets

The surprising part of the post is how firmly Pei separates the device from AI wearables, which is where most people would file a screenless AI product.

“The whole industry is hunting for its iPhone moment: the pendant, the pin, the glasses, the companion, some magical consumer device that makes AI part of everyone’s life,” Pei said. “I admire the boldness, but I read this moment differently.”

Pei didn’t explain what that different reading is. The December launch will have to answer that.

Nothing still plans glasses and earbuds

Pei’s swipe at glasses sits uneasily with Nothing’s own plans. The company has said it intends to launch AI-linked smart glasses and earbuds with AI integrations.

Nothing isn’t giving up on wearables, then. Pei is positioning this first AI product as a separate thing from that line.

Where Nothing stands today

Nothing is the smartphone startup that makes the Nothing Phone. Pei has hinted at an AI-first device for some time, and this post is the first one to put a month on it.

If the device interests you, hold off on any decision until the reveal. So far the only specs for Nothing’s December product are “no new screen” and “couldn’t have been an app,” which isn’t enough to judge a productivity tool.
