Modest though it may seem, the release slots into a broader plan. Back in July, CCP informed players that a series of “offensive and defensive” updates would roll out across consecutive weeks, with the specific details guided by feedback from community testing.

Where it fits

Version 0.6.x represents the game's sixth cycle, carrying the Sanctuary label. That launch reshaped EVE Frontier around modular ship building, allowing players to piece hulls together from interchangeable parts. The Stuttergun and Thrust Overdrive broaden that kit on both the weapons and propulsion fronts.

Additional content is lined up. CCP has scheduled a mid-season update for Aug. 18, which it characterized as “better tools in a bigger toolbox,” adding character shell modules centered on survival and bringing in gravity hazards from black holes and rifts.

A mid-cycle patch in October is slated to deliver full ship and structure modularity, temporary player teams and shared storage.

Founder Access and the Sui move

Sanctuary, and each patch beneath it, operate within Founder Access — the paid early-access program CCP made available to players. The packs come in three tiers ranging from $30 to $90, granting closed alpha access, cosmetic skins, a Founder role on Discord, monthly developer streams and subscription time after launch.

The closed alpha kicked off Dec. 10 under an NDA that covers development details. CCP additionally offered a free 10-day trial for players interested in sampling the game without committing to a purchase.

The chain beneath it all continues to evolve. CCP started building on an EVM-based testnet using Solidity, and that version became the foundation for today’s Founder Access client. The studio has since confirmed that EVE Frontier will operate on Sui, the Layer-1 network from Mysten Labs, pointing to its speed and onchain object model as well-suited to a universe spanning tens of thousands of star systems. As of early 2026, CCP is in the middle of porting the Founder Access build to Sui.

The game is built to support multiple tokens, among them an EVE utility token. CCP has stated it won’t limit transactions occurring outside the game and has taken care to describe EVE Frontier as a game that uses blockchain rather than a blockchain game.

“Our long-term vision is to create an open ecosystem built, operated and governed by the Frontier’s inhabitants themselves,” said Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, CEO of CCP Games.

The Icelandic studio responsible for EVE Online secured $40 million for its blockchain efforts in 2023, through a round led by Andreessen Horowitz.
