Chainlink’s VRF v2 Live On Ethereum Mainnet

Chainlink VRF v2 Is Live On The Ethereum Mainnet

Recently Chainlink VRF crossed 3 million request transactions across all blockchain projects. A significant upgrade has come with Chainlink launching the second and version of Chainlink VRF currently on the Ethereum Mainnet.

Chainlink, the most popular and high used decentralized oracle network, announced the release of Chainlink VRF v2 (Verifiable Random Function.

Multiple NFT projects and Blockchain games have integrated Chainlink VRF’s features for helping them provide a fair distributed gameplay and economy by randomizing smart contracts, making each unique.

This new and improved version of Chainlink VRF functions will provide the following:

  • A pay-as-you-go subscription management contract (making requests more cost-efficient)
  • The ability to adjust the callback gas limit when verifiable randomness is delivered
  • Expanded capabilities for defining the number of block confirmations needed to deliver randomness
  • A new, seamless way to request multiple random numbers in a single on-chain transaction
  • Unified billing to enable multiple smart contract addresses to fund their randomness requests from a single subscription balance

The second version is currently live on the Ethereum mainnet, with plans to expand to other blockchains already supported by the Chainlink Oracle Network, which are:

  • Polygon
  • Binance Smart Chain (BSC)

Over the last year, Chainlink VRF has become the industry standard for randomness in the blockchain sector. It is only with verifiable, tamper-proof randomness that it becomes possible to securely mint NFTs and their attributes or ensure fair outcomes in blockchain-based games. Chainlink VRF has already become the standard randomness solution for the blockchain industry, and I believe the efficiency benefits of v2 will further accelerate its adoption rate across many new ecosystems.”

Sergey Nazarov, co-founder of Chainlink.

VRF is a highly secure and provably fair source of on-chain randomness for all kinds of blockchain-based applications, NFTs, and games.

Random Number Generation (RNG) is a mechanism for unpredictability. RNG secures the outcome against reverse engineering. However, it’s vulnerable to miner attacks, and it requires complete trust in the data provider when it comes to off-chain implementation.

Chainlink VRF is explicitly designed to support smart contracts’ needs, providing them with an open-source and easily integrated RNG solution directly auditable on-chain by any user via cryptographic proofs.

With this technology, even the oracle provider or the project developers can’t tamper the outcome.

Chainlink’s VRF technology has also been integrated into multiple games and dapps such as WasderDreams Quest, Axie InfinityMy Defi Pet, The Six DragonsPolyient GamesIGG, and many others.
