Playground Games is holding its ground. Despite rumors of a delay, the studio maintains that Forza Horizon 6 will reach PS5 before the year is out — a position it restated in a post today.
The one detail missing: a release date.
“If you’re planning your trip to Discover Japan on PlayStation 5, stay tuned!” Playground said. “Forza Horizon 6 will be releasing on PS5 later this year, and you can add the game to your Wishlist on the PlayStation Store to be notified of availability.”
That was the extent of it. No firm date, no window tighter than “later,” and no word on how the port performs. A wishlist button, and a calendar that keeps ticking.
The calendar is the real problem
The autumn schedule is crowded. Marvel’s Wolverine and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 both arrive during September and October, though neither pulls from Forza’s audience enough to suffocate it. There’s room for a racing game in that window.
November offers none. Launching Forza Horizon 6 on PS5 in November, head-to-head with GTA 6, would be suicidal. Rockstar’s title is expected to ship with deep car customization and racing bolted onto everything else that draws people to GTA in the first place. Consider which of the two a PS5 owner buys that month. The answer is obvious.
December looks marginally better. Only marginally. GTA 6 hype will still be at full volume, and it’ll be the gift topping everyone’s list.
Which leaves Microsoft and Playground squeezed into a short runway, with little room to build momentum before it runs out.
The precedent is on Playground’s side
One thing does work in their favor: Forza Horizon 5 performed well on PS5 despite arriving on the platform very late. Being late didn’t damage it. The players turned up regardless, and nothing suggests the sequel will fare differently.
Forza Horizon 6 ranks among the biggest games of 2026 in what has been an unrelenting year. It sits among 2026’s best sellers, and critics agreed — one review handed it a 10/10.
“Technically, Forza Horizon 6 has not skipped a beat, and it runs like a titan,” that review said. “Aesthetically, it’s the best-looking and best-sounding game Playground has produced to date, set in the most wonderfully realised map it’s ever crafted, full of dense, authentic details and stunning driving roads. It’s rewarding to explore, the campaign is well-paced with a great payoff, and I simply cannot stop playing.”
Sometime between now and December 31, PS5 owners will get to judge whether that praise holds on their own hardware. The wishlist page is live. What it lacks is a date.

STAY ALWAYS UP TO DATE
