Eight episodes and a total runtime of five hours and 49 minutes. That is the full commitment required if you want to arrive at Monday’s Emmys already familiar with the most-nominated title Netflix has in the race.
Beef season 2 collected 16 nominations at the 2026 Emmys and has banked three wins already. With the ceremony set for Monday, Sept. 14, the clock hasn’t run out on you.
The lineup of actors is reason enough
Leading the season are Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan, backed by Cailee Spaeny, Charles Melton and William Fichtner. It’s a genuine threat throughout the Limited/Anthology field, Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series included — a prize Beef claimed in 2023 on the strength of its debut season.
Isaac is nominated for Lead Actor, with Mulligan competing for Lead Actress. Melton picked up a Supporting Actor nod, Youn Yuh-jung earned Supporting Actress, and creator Lee Sung Jin is recognized in both the Writing and Directing races.
Back in 2023, the first season walked away with eight wins, Steven Yeun’s Lead Actor trophy and Ali Wong’s Lead Actress trophy among them. On Rotten Tomatoes, season 2 holds an 89% score.
The road rage season is no longer the reference point
The original run tracked a pair of strangers whose lives became knotted together after a road rage confrontation. For season 2, both the cast and the plot are discarded, while the thematic spine survives: materialism, identity formation, and the friction between social and wealth classes.
The action now unfolds at the fictional Monte Vista Point Country Club in Southern California, an operation managed by Joshua (Isaac), whose wife Lindsay (Mulligan) is also part of the picture. When two staffers, Austin (Melton) and Ashley (Spaeny), capture video of the pair arguing, they conclude the recording has a price tag.
Blackmail is only the first domino
Desperation, and the pursuit of financial stability, is what pushes Austin and Ashley to target Joshua. Ashley is buried under medical debt. After she’s handed a club promotion she has no business receiving, the season unfolds as a串 of power plays and manipulations that ultimately drags a cover-up into the light — one tied to the club’s owner, Chairwoman Park (Youn Yuh-jung).
Dark comedy and psychological drama operate side by side here, and that’s precisely why the emotional whiplash connects.
Run the numbers on your Sunday
Individual episodes land anywhere from 31 to 54 minutes. Three hours and 23 minutes covers the opening five, meaning a single evening gets you through the bulk of it, with the remainder requiring little effort.
No other Netflix title is anywhere near it this year. The Beast in Me ranks second on nine nominations, while Black Rabbit takes third with seven. Beef is sitting on 16.
That said, the fight for the top Limited or Anthology award is genuine. DTF St. Louis, a dark comedy from HBO Max, has already banked six trophies at the Creative Arts Emmys.
Reviewers were positive, if not unanimous
The reception wasn’t as ecstatic as what greeted the debut season, yet the notices remain strong. IndieWire handed out an A-, noting, “The most beautiful moments of Lee’s epic tale appear at times when all the noise has been stripped away, and each character has to face a truth they’ve been fighting so hard to ignore.”
One 7/10 review framed it this way: “Though it sometimes seems like a bug rather than a feature this time around, Beef season 2 still maintains the electric unpredictability that is becoming a hallmark of the show.”
Hit play and the craftsmanship takes over — the imagery, the acting, the manner in which the narrative unwinds. Three episodes will be gone before it occurs to you to glance at the clock.
