Azuki gives its anime arm its own home with a low-key studio.azuki launch

azuki gives its anime arm its own home with a low key studio azuki launch In Brief:

In Brief:

  • According to crypto commentator Seven, Azuki put the studio.azuki website and @studio_azuki account live this week, handing its anime studio a standalone identity.
  • Unveiled in July 2025 with Tokyo-based partners COMISMA and Xenotoon, Studio Azuki works from a U.S. base to develop and distribute original IP as well as anime adaptations.
  • Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith’s Westbrook Inc. is already on board as a strategic partner, a sign of Azuki reaching well beyond its NFT roots.

Without much fanfare, Azuki has given its anime studio a dedicated online footprint, taking the studio.azuki site and the @studio_azuki account live this week.

The rollout arrived with no trailer and no teaser. Seven, a crypto commentator who follows the project, singled it out as the most significant thing Azuki did all week. “one of the most important signals from Azuki this week wasn’t a trailer or a teaser,” Seven said. “it was the quiet launch of studio.azuki and the @studio_azuki account.”

on the surface it’s just a new website and a profile for their studio. strategically, it represents something much bigger.

What the account formalizes

Studio Azuki traces back to the joint venture Azuki revealed on July 2, 2025, in Los Angeles, teaming with Tokyo’s COMISMA Inc. and Xenotoon Inc. Based in the U.S., the studio handles development, production and distribution of original IP and anime adaptations.

COMISMA, headed by CEO Kōki Satō, runs the manga app GANMA! and owns animation house Qzil.la. Xenotoon, under CEO Koichi Kawase, contributes a 2D/3D production pipeline plus a creator network with ties to indie animators, among them the team behind Yasuda Gensho.

The venture falls under Azuki’s “Anime 2.0” vision — the company’s case for making anime with fans instead of merely for them. Prior chapters of that effort include the Enter The Garden (official site) anthology, Anime.com and Azuki’s early involvement in the Animecoin Foundation.

“With a global-first, creator-centric, and social-native approach, Studio Azuki is our bold step toward building the next generation of anime, one that empowers creators, & connects directly with fans,” said Feb Tea, Head of Content at Azuki Labs. “By joining forces with COMISMA and Xenotoon, we’re combining deep, authentic anime production expertise with fresh creative energy and global perspective. Together, we can redefine how anime is developed, financed, and experienced around the world, with new original anime titles, stories and creators for years to come.”

Hollywood backing

A Hollywood name is in the mix as well. Westbrook Inc. — founded by Jada Pinkett Smith, Will Smith, Miguel Melendez and Ko Yada — has entered a strategic partnership with Studio Azuki, marrying the studio’s production work to Westbrook’s distribution muscle.

“At Westbrook, our mission has always been to tell stories that connect, inspire, and transcend borders,” said Westbrook CEO Ko Yada. “Partnering with Studio Azuki is a powerful step in that direction. Their creative vision and cultural insight align seamlessly with our global strategy.”

The output is beginning to surface. Back in January, the studio started streaming “Catch of the Day,” a 3DCG mini-short directed by Genshō Yasuda.

Seven read the understated debut as intentional. “on the surface it’s just a new website and a profile for their studio,” Seven said. “strategically, it represents something much bigger.”
