In Brief:

  • The Sandbox co-founders have opened a financing campaign for Hollywood Hills, a cosmic horror film that mixes audience investment, collectibles and an interactive mystery.
  • Opening on October 8, the campaign targets $1 million and gives investors contractual revenue sharing.
  • A digital art collection tied to the film, Hollywood Hills Villas, has also been revealed, made up of 3,000 artworks.

Funding campaign announced

Arthur Madrid and Sébastien Borget, the co-founders of The Sandbox SAND $0.06739 ▲ +46.6% (official site), are leading a campaign to finance Hollywood Hills. The horror film pairs audience participation with digital collectibles and a real-world tour in Los Angeles. The goal is $1 million, with a minimum investment of $200, and the campaign runs from October 8 to December 31, 2026. The offering has a minimum funding target of $75,000 and a cap of $5 million.

Madrid and Borget will be the lead investors and will also act as production partners. The Sandbox will help with marketing and community building. The project was first revealed at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.

Film details

Benjamin Rozovas wrote and directs Hollywood Hills. The story follows a tour of celebrity death sites that turns, over one night, into a journey through Hollywood’s dark history. With a dying star hanging overhead, the bus leaves its normal route and heads into an underworld of buried secrets.

Principal photography is planned for the third quarter of 2027 in Spain, and the film is expected to come out in 2028.

Investor returns

Investors get a contractual right to a share of the film’s revenue. They are first repaid 120% of what they put in, and after that the proceeds are split evenly between investors and producers. Returns depend on available funds and are not guaranteed.

Digital art collection

The campaign also launches Hollywood Hills Villas, a set of 3,000 digital artworks illustrated by Steve Scott. The first 1,000 investors will each receive a Villa. The Villas are locations in the film’s fictional world, and each one holds clues about the film’s mythology. Rare and Legendary Villas give unique insights into the central mystery.

“The Villas are not simply collectibles. They’re pieces of evidence, carrying clues that invite people to investigate, form theories and become part of the mythology,” Borget said.

Unique bus tour experience

Alongside the campaign, a partnership with Grave Line Tours will start a Dead & Famous bus tour in October. Investors get early access, and the tour is planned to open to the public closer to the film’s release. It will visit sites connected to celebrity deaths along the route the film’s characters take, and it is meant to deepen the project’s lore.
